SummaryAssists the dentist during the examination and treatment of patients in the clinical facility and operating room. Maintains treatment rooms, instruments, equipment, and sterilizes dental instruments. Serves as a dental assistant in the operating room. Supports the program director and practice director in training dental residents. Remains CDA Certified to assist new dental assistants, as needed.
Job Duties
- Provides chair side assistance to the dentist, dental specialists, and oral surgeons in the clinic, operating room, or short procedure unit.
- Assembles and sets-up equipment and supplies necessary for each patient's treatment.
- Performs basic dental radiographic procedures.
- Performs clean-up activities in the operatory, observing safety and infection control policies, procedures, and protocols in handling of instruments, equipment, and supplies. Performs infection control in sterilization room according to Infection Control Policy.
- Documents patient safety issues into the hospital system. Assists assistants with documentation, as needed.
- Escorts patients into the treatment room, providing assistance as necessary utilizing good body mechanics.
- Rooms patient in Epic. Reports relevant patient/visitor requests and concerns; communicates observations related to patient health.
- Reports relevant patient/visitor requests and concerns to the appropriate dental facility staff.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma/GED
- 5 years experience as a dental assistant in a dental residency.
- Computer skills.
- Knowledge of digital radiology.
- Knowledge of implant dentistry.
- Knowledge of dental specialties, endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, prosthetics, and pedodontics.
- Knowledge of infection control procedures.
- CDA - Certified Dental Assistant - State of Pennsylvania within 90 Days
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
Physical DemandsLift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
