Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) believes the presence of a family member can have a positive impact on the healing process. At Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg, we have an open visitation policy for family.

We also know that eliminating as much noise as possible overnight allows our patients to rest undisturbed and promotes healing. Because of this, an announcement will be made at 9 p.m. every night to declare that “Quiet Time” has begun, and guest visitation hours have ended. As part of that announcement, a designated supporting family member will be invited to remain. Nurses on duty will have the discretion to invite any visitors to return the following day to encourage patient rest.

Please note: Your safety is our priority. Lehigh Valley Health Network is fully committed to providing a safe environment for all patients, visitors and staff.  We do not tolerate profanity, verbal abuse, physical abuse or threatening behavior. Visitors who engage in abusive or threatening behavior will be escorted from the premises and may face prosecution.

Health and other visitor guidelines

Some care areas do have special guidelines for guests. Please talk to your nurse to determine if any special guidelines apply to the area where your loved one is receiving care. Out of care and concern for our patients and for you, we ask that if you have signs or symptoms of infection or contagious disease, or have had recent exposure to anyone with an infectious disease, or have received a live vaccine – measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), VARIVAX® or ZOSTAVAX® – within the past four weeks, that you refrain from visiting.

People with flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, body aches) are asked not to come to the hospital for visitation. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this policy. Our goal is to limit the spread of flu-like illnesses and keep our community healthy.

Smoke-free facilities

All LVHN facilities – including all buildings, parking lots and grounds – are completely smoke-free. This policy not only applies to all visitors, but all patients and hospital staff.

Any visitor smoking on the hospital property will be asked to refrain from doing so. We appreciate your cooperation.

Our aim, by becoming a smoke-free organization, is to protect and improve the health of our staff, patients and visitors, both smokers and nonsmokers.
