  3. Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary rehabilitation is designed for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis and other lung diseases. You will feel and see improvements as our respiratory therapists, nurses and exercise physiologists monitor your vital signs and track your results using the latest tests and measures during the course of your exercise participation.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services

A team of specialists

The Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) team of specialists will meet with you to design a customized program that is safe, effective and focused on your specific health care needs and goals. Team members provide support to help you succeed. The team consists of many specialists, including:

  • Doctors
  • Nurse specialists
  • Dietitians
  • Exercise physiologists
  • Physical therapists
  • Occupational therapists

Education

All of our programs include an educational component where you will learn about things that can cause heart and lung disease, and what you can do to stay healthy. You also will meet many people in our group-exercise setting who are facing the same challenges and overcoming the same obstacles. Most insurance plans cover our programs. Ask your doctor if you are a candidate for one of our programs.

Program benefits

The benefits of the program can include:

  • Reduced shortness of breath
  • Improved fitness and strength
  • Emotional and social support
  • Stress reduction
  • Weight loss
  • Lower blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar
  • Improved diet
  • Decreased risk for disability
  • Smoking cessation
  • Increased endurance
