Insider Tips to Help Your Student-Athlete Shine

Student-athletes throughout the region have been preparing for this moment for months – the start of the fall sports season. Every athlete wants to have a successful and healthy season, and no one knows how to make that happen better than professional and collegiate athletes.

We spoke to Penn State football players and Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) Impact Athletes, including professional wide receiver Jahan Dotson. They have some tips on how your favorite student-athlete can have their best fall season yet!

Stretch

“One thing that I wish I had done more of in high school is stretch. As easy as it sounds, that mobility is key when it comes to playing in the trenches.” - Nick Dawkins, offensive lineman with Penn State University

Be coachable

Take advice from your coaches. They know what they are talking about, and it’s also important to learn from your mistakes.” - Tyler Holzworth, running back with Penn State University

Focus on nutrition

“Nutrition is so important. You can’t expect a race car to run properly using the wrong fuel. You have to fuel your body properly. Get your protein, vitamins and carbs so that you can get the most out of every workout.” -  Jake Wilson, defensive lineman with Penn State University

Perfect your craft

“The best advice I ever received was from my dad, and it was simply to perfect your craft. It’s such a cliché thing to say, but I always say hard work prevails. If you work hard, good things will happen.” - Jahan Dotson, professional wide receiver
