Dickson City, PA, February 7, 2026 – Jefferson Health is issuing an important update on safety assessments, ongoing restoration work, patient outreach and colleague assistance following the fire at the Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Dickson City campus earlier this week.
The response has been marked by strong collaboration and community support.
“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from the community,” said Joseph G. Cacchione, MD, CEO of Jefferson. “I want to again extend my sincere thanks to the first responders whose swift actions protected our patients, visitors, colleagues, and the surrounding community, as well as to our dedicated teams who have worked tirelessly in the aftermath. Their commitment and resilience continue to guide our efforts as we move forward together.”
Building Operations:
The hospital is temporarily closed. Anyone experiencing a medical emergency should go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. Structural engineers confirmed the hospital building remains structurally sound, with significant damage contained to the Medical Office Building. Restoration crews continue to work around the clock, in close coordination with hospital leadership and regulatory agencies, to support a safe and timely return to full hospital operations. The system’s top priority remains restoration of emergency services, recognizing how essential these resources are and how deeply the community relies on the care provided at LVH–Dickson City.
Continuity of Care
As efforts continue to restore emergency services during the temporary closure, teams are engaging with patients with existing appointments. Jefferson colleagues are contacting hundreds of patients to arrange care at alternate locations. Recovery efforts are grounded in ensuring patient safety and meeting community needs.
Beginning Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the following orthopedic office locations will open. Patients can call 570-307-1767 for all locations:
- LVPG Orthopedics & Sports Medicine-Steamtown: 300 Lackawanna Avenue, Suite 200 Scranton, PA 18503

To further guide patients through next steps, an online FAQ addresses the most common questions and provides contact information for rescheduling an appointment. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
“The ongoing work of reaching out to hundreds of patients is a significant and sustained effort—one our teams are approaching with urgency and compassion. We continue to focus on minimizing disruption and ensuring patients receive the care they need without delay,” said Baligh R. Yehia, MD, MPP, MSc, President, Jefferson Health.
Colleague Support
Jefferson implemented dedicated support for the nearly 500 colleagues in Dickson City, particularly those who worked alongside emergency responders during and after the incident, and whose heroic response resulted in the safe evacuation of patients, colleagues and visitors. Well-being support was provided to ensure teams have the relief and assistance they need as they continue caring for the community through this rapidly evolving situation. Impacted colleagues are receiving salary continuation as operational planning is underway.
“Our focus is firmly on the future: restoring emergency services as quickly and safely as possible, supporting our patients so they can continue to access high-quality specialty care they depend on, and ensuring our colleagues have the resources they need during this challenging time," Cacchione added.
Additional updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
