With spring on the horizon, many of us renew our interest in health. For women, it’s wise to put an annual mammogram right at the top of the to-do list. According to studies, mammography screening reduces breast cancer mortality by approximately 25% in the general population. That’s why it’s smart to make time for a mammogram even when things are busy.
“Screening mammograms help find breast cancer at an early stage, when it is more easily treated and defeated,” says breast surgeon Lori Alfonse, DO, Deputy Physician in Chief, Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute. “This strengthens my invitation to every woman. We are experts at taking care of our family members’ priorities, but we need to make time for own health and schedule a yearly mammogram.”
