Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN)’s Pharmacy Residency program will equip you with the clinical and professional skills needed to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical services in a patient-focused health care setting.
PGY-1 program purpose:
PGY-1 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY-1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership and education and will be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (BCPS) and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY-2) residencies.
LVHN PGY-1 residency description:
The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program at Lehigh Valley Health Network offers flexibility and tailoring of experiences to allow residents to further develop knowledge and skills within a broad range of practice areas while preparing residents for clinical positions or PGY-2 training in a community hospital setting.
The LVHN PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program is accredited by the ASHP. The 12-month (52-week) program provides well-rounded training experience, offering you the opportunity to further develop clinical and leadership skills and explore the many facets of hospital pharmacy practice. The program is flexible, ensuring your areas of interest are incorporated into your experience.
Following completion of PGY-1 training at LVHN, our residents have continued on to clinical positions and many have continued their careers right here at LVHN. In addition, numerous residents have pursued PGY-2 training in specialties such as ambulatory care, critical care, HIV, oncology and pediatrics and, after successful completion of these programs, accepted clinical specialist positions. Past residents also hold adjunct faculty positions at schools of pharmacy, medical schools and universities.
