About

Philosophy of care

Health means different things to different people. My most important job as a doctor is to listen to my patients and understand what health means to them. Everybody deserves to be supported in their own health goals!

Why I entered medicine

I entered medicine because I love my community.

As a queer and transgender person, caring for LGBTQ+ patients is extremely important to me. I have taught LGBTQ+ affirming care in my residency and presented at nationwide and international conferences about caring for this community.

Prior to entering medicine, I was a caregiver for adults and children with intellectual/developmental disabilities for 11 years. This community inspired me to enter medicine in the first place, because through this work I learned that many people with intellectual/developmental disabilities have trouble finding doctors who can meet their behavioral, emotional and sensory needs. I hope to play a small part in filling that gap.

As a physician and at times as a patient, I have seen the stigma and difficulty accessing care that people with higher body weights face. My goal is to help all my patients improve their health in the way that works for them through a Health at Every Size framework.

Community involvement

I have been involved with organizations supporting people with intellectual/developmental disabilities such as Best Buddies, The Woodlands Foundation and others, as well as with LGBTQ+ organizations such as the LGBTQ+ Center of Central PA.

Personal interests

In my free time, I like to read, play Dungeons & Dragons (a cooperative storytelling game) with friends, and attend the local Renaissance Faires. I also enjoy hiking and time in nature.
