The Basics:
The Advanced Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship at Lehigh Valley Health Network, part of Jefferson Health, is a one-year fellowship accredited by the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Accreditation Council (EUFAC). Our goal is to help train American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) eligible or certified physicians to feel confident in both basic and advanced emergency ultrasound applications and help develop their career goals. Upon graduation the fellows will be eligible to sit for the ABEM Focused Practice Designation (FDP) examination.
Our main teaching sites are also accredited by the American College of Emergency Physicians’ Clinical Ultrasound Accreditation Program (CUAP), ensuring the highest standards for emergency ultrasound are kept in our clinical environments.
The Lehigh Valley is a diverse patient-care environment with multiple levels of trauma center, a burn center, an Emergency Department critical care unit with Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital. LVHN is home to a well-established emergency medicine residency and partners medical schools and universities. The health network serves over 140,000 patient visits per year in the training sites with a range of pathology and boasts over 9,000 point-of-care ultrasound exams across the network per year.
The breadth of experience this environment allows gives fellows to opportunity to explore the various and exciting aspects of emergency ultrasound. Training includes both clinical ultrasound diagnostic and therapeutic applications as well as educational theory and program management.

This fellowship is designed not only to strengthen your procedural ultrasound skills but also to support your growth as a clinician, educator and leader. You’ll gain exposure to the many ways POCUS impacts patient care. Whether it is teaching and mentoring learners, to improving systems and workflows that help clinicians provide efficient, high-quality care, our goal is to continually elevate the POCUS experience for both patients and clinicians.
