Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency FAQs

Frequently asked questions:

Do you sponsor visas for international medical graduates?

The Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency does not sponsor visas at this time.

Is clinical or research experience in the United States required to apply?

We do not require clinical or research experience; however this sort of experience will help strengthen an application.

Do you offer clinical shadowing, observerships, externships, etc.?

We do not offer these sorts of experiences at LVHN.

Is your program accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE)?

ABPTRFE has granted the Lehigh Valley Health Network Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency program candidacy status. Candidacy status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation. Achieving candidacy status is not an indication that ABPTRFE will grant initial accreditation. Participants who graduate from a program in candidacy status are not deemed to have completed an accredited program.

Is there a work-commitment requirement?

Yes. In return for competitive compensation, residents must complete a work commitment of 3,120 hours following graduation, approximately 18 months of full time.

I am already an LVHN colleague. Can I apply and how does this affect my salary?

Yes, existing colleagues may apply. Current physical therapists will experience a one pay-grade adjustment when transitioning into a resident job code, typically resulting in a 3-5 percent decrease in annual salary to help offset the cost of the program. We believe that residency training should be accessible to all clinicians, and financial compensation is structured to support this.

I am already an LVHN colleague. Do I need to change my clinic to be part of the neuro-residency program?

Yes. Unless you already work at the Neuro-Destination Center or Rehabilitation Services–Muhlenberg 1770, you will need to relocate to complete this residency.

I am already an LVHN colleague. Will my current position be available when I finish the residency program?

Yes. Following completion of the residency program, residents will have the ability to return to their previous locations and positions. If any changes occur because of clinic needs, alternative placement options will be discussed with you in advance.
