We provide a broad range of hospice services, allowing your loved one to have the peace and comfort they deserve.
Hospice services at Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute
Our focus is to help your loved one receive quality end-of-life care. Hospice services at the Cancer Institute include:
Home-based hospice care
Your loved one has the option to receive hospice services at home. Our hospice nurses are on call 24/7. We answer questions and coordinate additional services, including emotional support, to care for any ongoing needs. Some of our nurses completed additional training in meeting the unique needs of cancer patients, allowing us to deliver specialized care.
Inpatient hospice care
Our team helps relieve problems, such as pain and shortness of breath. Our hospice unit also offers private rooms and is open to guests around the clock.
Comprehensive hospice care for cancer
Highlights of our program include:
Highly skilled hospice nurses
Many of our nurses have earned certification in hospice care. We use proven techniques to deliver end-of-life care that honors your loved one’s wishes and their medical needs.
Timely access to care
Home health monitoring technology helps us track your loved one's blood pressure, heart rate and temperature – even if our caregivers are not present. If we detect a change in your loved one’s condition, we quickly coordinate the services they need to stay comfortable.
We provide spiritual and emotional care for your family. Dedicated hospice chaplains provide spiritual counseling. We also offer support groups as well as individual and family counseling. Find out more about cancer counseling services.
Our hospice team
Our team approach means a caring voice and a helping hand are always within reach. In addition to hospice nurses, our team includes:
- Hospice aides who assist your loved one with bathing and dressing as well as providing companionship
- Social workers who connect your loved one and your family with services, such as emotional support and community resources
- Hospice chaplains who provide spiritual counseling
- Specially trained volunteers who help make this time a little easier by running errands, performing light household tasks and providing you with much-needed breaks
Paying for hospice services
Most insurance plans, including Medicare, cover hospice services. Thanks to the generosity of community donors, Lehigh Valley Hospice services are available to any eligible patient regardless of their ability to pay. Additional financial assistance may be available through cancer care financial coordination services.
