The Lehigh Valley Amputee Support Group is pleased to once again sponsor and host the annual Amputee Awareness Day event Saturday, April 18 at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, part of Jefferson Health. The event is free to attend and open to the community. Attendees can browse vendors and prosthetic companies demonstrating the latest products, enjoy a featured speaker sharing his inspiring story, and a boxed lunch will be served for those in attendance.
At noon, speaker Billy Parker will share how after losing both his hands and his arms above the elbow in an accident, he found his purpose by promoting workplace safety. Today, the former welder uses body-powered and myoelectric prostheses to perform daily tasks, and he shares videos online to help others with upper limb loss.
Billy began sharing his story publicly and that led him to pursue public speaking as a career, starting his own company, Lending A Hand. He’s also an advocate through teaming up with Moving Forward, a support group for people who have lost limbs.
