Mindfulness supports emotional balance, joyfulness, mental clarity and resilience. Learn to live more fully in the present moment and reduce stress in your life by attending free introductory sessions and exploring the mindfulness programs offered by the Center for Mindfulness, a program of Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), part of Jefferson Health. 

These programs are grounded in four decades of research and have been shown to support well-being across many areas of life, including physical health, mood and relationships.

Help yourself reduce stress

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week training program that enables you to meet life’s challenges with greater resilience. There is a substantial body of medical literature supporting the effectiveness of mindfulness for chronic pain, anxiety, depression, sleep concerns and other stress-related conditions.

You’ll spend about half of each class session learning and practicing stress-reduction techniques such as meditation, awareness of the breath and body and mindful movement. The remainder of the class includes group discussion about how stress affects health, how to bring mindfulness into everyday activities and how this approach can improve communication and relationships. Participants often experience a strong sense of connection during the program, and the supportive learning environment becomes an important part of the experience.

Learn how to meditate, practice gentle mindful movement and apply mindfulness to all the moments of daily life.

Before enrolling in the MBSR program, you will meet individually with an instructor. This one-on-one conversation allows you to clarify goals, ask questions and ensure that the program is a good match for your needs.

An important component of the program is daily home practice. You’ll be asked to commit 45 minutes a day to mindfulness practice to receive the fullest benefit. Although attending the weekly classes is valuable, the lasting changes that many people experience are the result of regular practice in between

Here are details about the upcoming MBSR program that starts this winter: 

Location: Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, Kasych Family Pavilion, ECC Room 9
Dates: Classes run from Jan. 20 through March 10, 2026 
Time: Tuesday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. 

More details

  • All classes are led by trained and experienced co-facilitators who create a safe, supportive and enjoyable learning environment.
  • A Day of Practice is included, and will take place on Saturday, Feb. 21, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., also in ECC 9.
  • Each weekly class is 2½ hours in length. A day-long retreat, course materials, guided meditation recordings and instructor support are all included.
  • In addition, 23 continuing education (CEU) credits are available for many health professionals, including nurses, social workers, counselors, educators and others.

Before registering for the full MBSR program, you’ll attend a free orientation session. These sessions introduce mindfulness and how it can help with stress, mood and overall well-being. Instructors will describe what happens in an MBSR class, offer simple guided practices and answer questions.
