Feeling unwell generates a cascade of questions: What’s wrong with me? Can I treat this at home? Do I need to see a doctor?

A new symptom checker on LVHN.org can help you with health care guidance 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. By answering a series of questions, the symptom checker offers recommendations for your care. Those options range from care you can do at home to scheduling a video visit or seeing a clinician in person.

Getting started

Start by visiting the symptom checker and answering a few initial questions, then you will describe your main health concern. If you have additional symptoms, you will have a chance to add those to the symptom checker. The checker will ask you clarifying questions to help narrow down the area of concern. Once you have added all the information, it will produce an assessment report, which is not a diagnosis, but will provide one or more options for what’s ailing you. The symptom checker will also help you find a walk-in care option offered by LVHN near you, if that is your preference. Virtual care is also an option that may be recommend.

What else should I know about this symptom checker?

It is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and learns from your answers what it needs to ask next. It doesn’t provide medical advice or a diagnosis – it only helps provide information about what your health concerns may mean and where you could go for help.

What are my options for care?

Outside of trying over-the-counter treatments at home (when applicable), you may choose to have a same day or next day video visit with a primary care clinician from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. through your MyLVHN account (formerly known as an ExpressCARE Video Visit), or a JeffConnect video visit with an urgent care clinician, available 24/7. You also can contact your primary care clinician to schedule an appointment. (And if you don’t already have a primary care clinician, find one here.)

Can the symptom checker diagnose emergency symptoms?

The symptom checker is not appropriate if you are experiencing shortness of breath, chest pain, drooping on one side of your body, and other serious health concerns that need emergency room care. If you have any of those types of symptoms, call 911 immediately.
