Learn about hernia information sessions and screening events offered by Lehigh Valley Institute for Surgical Excellence

If you think you might have a hernia, you may want to consider attending an upcoming free hernia information session and screening event hosted by Lehigh Valley Institute for Surgical Excellence.

But you may wonder, “What can I get out of attending this type of event?”

In our hernia information sessions, you will find out:

  • The different types of hernias people may develop.
  • How hernias are treated.
  • Why robotic surgery is an important option to consider for hernia repair.
  • Why Lehigh Valley Health Network, part of Jefferson Health, is the place to go for hernia repair.

As part of the event, free hernia screenings are offered to provide an initial assessment of whether you may have a hernia. A follow-up office appointment will need to be scheduled for a more formal review of your condition and to schedule surgery, if necessary.

“It’s always better to get an evaluation and opinion about whether your hernia should be corrected now, so you don’t end up in a more complex situation down the road.” - Paul Cesanek, MD

For the screening portion, be sure to wear comfortable clothing that can provide access to the area of your hernia

A second opinion

If you have been diagnosed with a hernia and it hasn’t been assessed by a surgeon, reconsider the idea of “watchful waiting.”

“We do see people who have more advanced hernias because someone recommended watchful waiting,” says surgeon Paul Cesanek, MD, with LVPG Trauma and General Surgery. “It’s always better to get an evaluation and opinion about whether your hernia should be corrected now, so you don’t end up in a more complex situation down the road.”
