About Colleen M. Hermany
Philosophy of care
There are a lot of pieces to the puzzle of a person’s health and well-being. I will need your partnership to provide the information I need to customize care to your child’s specific needs. I also want your child to be involved in their care because that will encourage your son or daughter to be in control of their health.
Why I entered medicine
Growing up, I always dreamed of being a pediatrician. When applying for colleges I was unsure if I would want to go to medical school or go into the science field. I shadowed various types of advanced practitioners and doctors in both family medicine and pediatrics to see what I was most interested in. I found my love for pediatrics when I shadowed the nurse practitioner in my pediatrician’s office. While at Penn State, my sister was starting her career as a nurse and I decided to follow in her footsteps. I went for my second degree in nursing and after a few years of pediatric nursing in a hospital setting, I decided to attend school for my master’s degree.
Community involvement
In the past I have worked with Penn State Dance MaraTHON (THON), raising funds to help fight pediatric cancer. I enjoy going to events for THON to continue my support as an alumnus. My husband and I enjoy volunteering for events within our community, especially through the fire company where my husband volunteers.
Personal interests
I enjoy spending time with my family and watching the little ones growing up. My favorite pastime is to have a day at home with my family and our dog Penny. If I have free time, I enjoy baking and making a nice home-cooked meal. My husband and I love to travel. My favorite vacation spot is the beach, but I also like to hike and enjoy the outdoors.
