Career goal: Family medicine

“Being a resident at LVHN means I can make a difference in the lives of my patients.”

What makes your Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) training program different from other programs across the country?

This program gives me the opportunity to be a more autonomous physician, see a wide variety of cases from pediatric to gynecologic-obstetric to psychiatric. There are an array of resources and extensive one-on-one mentorship provided to foster my growth as a resident.

What has been the most extraordinary part of your training experience so far?

Having the opportunity to validate my patient’s emotions and concerns is the most extraordinary part of my training. It means a great deal for them to know they can be heard and seen during their visits. I am thankful to be in a position where I can provide that kind of security to my patients.

What is one memory you have from your training so far that will stay with you for your career?

Hiking on Hawk Mountain with the faculty and co-residents was a special memory. It was a different experience and a great way to bond with everyone.

What is one piece of advice you would share with someone as they select a training program?

The choice of a residency program should be based on three factors. First, look at the robust nature of the program. Most of us will only complete residency once and thus only have that training period once. Choose a training program that will provide you with a robust foundation on which you may build the rest of your career. Second, choose a program with faculty and staff that genuinely care about your well-being. Third, choose a program that will help you bring about a change in the community.

What does it mean to be a resident at LVHN?

Being a resident at LVHN means I can make a difference in the lives of my patients. Using shared decision-making, I can guide my patients to a better quality of life.
