General Surgery Residency Curriculum: Simulation

Surgical Education Center

The PGY-1, PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents participate in weekly skills lab with guided curriculum in our American College of Surgeons-accredited Education Institute surgical education center.

All residents have access to a robotic simulator, GI Bronch Mentor and laparoscopic mentor as well as FLS and FES simulators.

There are also demonstrations of equipment and products from various industries.

Venel Insitute

Residents attend cadaver labs at the Venel Institute to have exposure to a high-fidelity environment. Courses are taught by industry experts as well as local faculty. There is collaboration with other residencies from within our network.

Residents and faculty have also participated in ASSET (Advanced Surgical Sills for Exposure in Trauma) courses at Venel Institute.

Advanced Trauma Operative Management Course (ATOM®)

Our senior residents attend ATOM courses which teach operative techniques to manage chest and abdominal penetrating trauma.
