What is HoLEP?

HoLEP is a minimally invasive procedure used to relieve symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate. While medication can sometimes relieve BPH’s squeeze on the urethra, many men require a surgical solution.

Traditionally, other procedures have required a larger incision and an overnight stay in the hospital. However, HoLEP offers the same results as the other procedures, but patients are able to go home the same day.

Are you a candidate?

If you are a candidate for other procedures to resolve BPH, you are most likely a candidate for HoLEP as well. However, HoLEP is especially beneficial for those who have an enlarged prostate that cannot be treated with alternatives like transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and would require an open prostatectomy.

HoLEP has been shown to remove substantially more prostate tissue with fewer risks and less blood loss than a TURP or open procedure.

“Many urologists believe this approach will become the new standard of care for BPH, but it requires specialized training and equipment.”
