Top heart hospitals with cardiovascular residency programs must offer programs that include cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular medicine, interventional cardiology, thoracic surgery, thoracic surgery-integrated, advanced heart failure, transplant cardiology and adult congenital heart disease.
Top cardiac hospitals in the U.S. are also graded on short-term, acute care and must be nonfederal U.S. hospitals that treat a range of cardiology patients. This includes patients who need medical management as well as those who receive invasive surgical procedures.
“This is an incredible accomplishment for LVH–Cedar Crest and I am so proud that we are training the next generation of cardiologists to provide exceptional, lifesaving care,” says Ronald Freudenberger, MD, Physician in Chief, Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute. “This work would not be possible without the dedicated colleagues who work tirelessly to ensure our residents receive the best possible training. Our future is brighter because of the amazing work they do.”
All hospitals in the top 50 had better outcomes, higher inpatient survival rates, fewer complications and lower readmission rates.
