October Events Highlight Cancer Survivors and Cancer Research

Companies and organizations are stepping up during Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Many people locally are championing research and the groundbreaking treatments taking place at Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute, part of Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center and Jefferson Health. That’s especially true for those with Breast Health Services at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN). The staff encourages local companies, schools, and organizations to also get involved.

Upcoming and recent local business-supported events and specials:

  • Throughout October: Barley Creek Brewing – Tannersville
  • Throughout October: Crave Energy & Nutrition Bar – Bethlehem
  • Throughout October: Texas Roadhouse – Trexlertown
  • Oct. 25: Tri-Boro Sportsmen – Northampton

Events that inspired many

  • Oct. 3, 2026, at the Pink Ribbon Ride, more than 100 horses and riders trotted the wooded trails at Bucks County Horse Park in Revere, Pa. Most were decorated in pink to show support for breast cancer patients and survivors. This was the 21st year for the Pink Ribbon Ride. Over the last two decades, the ride has raised nearly $150,000 – $11,000 this year alone – for the Pink Ribbon Fund. The fund aids those facing a breast cancer diagnosis.
  • The Women’s 5K Classic also took place on Oct. 3 for the 43rd time at Lehigh Valley Parkway in Allentown. Comprising a walk, 5K run, and a health expo, the event helps support Greater Lehigh Valley organizations that share its mission. That includes promoting fitness among women, assisting women and families affected by breast and other female cancers, and educating women about breast cancer prevention and treatment. Every dollar raised by the Women’s 5K Classic remains in the Lehigh Valley and supports local programs, organizations, and institutions.
  • Pink Pumpkins Coins 4 Chemo, which hosts events year-round and participated in the Women’s 5K Classic, is an organization founded in 2014 by cancer survivor DeeAna Bedics. The organization has raised thousands of dollars for the Prager Patient Assistance Fund, where donations go to cancer patients for nonclinical, everyday expenses. (Pink Pumpkins Coins 4 Chemo will be holding its 11th annual holiday event for patients in active cancer treatment at the Cancer Institute and their families at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg on Dec. 16.)
  • And two recent events, Bags & Bucks Bingo Harvest Fest in Whitehall and Lauren’s Sunday FUNday Football in Allentown, also raised funds for breast cancer programs.

Look to the skies to see this one

A first this year, Allentown is going pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Leaders and staff at City Center Group, a property development company and owner of One City Center, envisioned a pink skyline in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They spread the word throughout the city, and the “glow” is already underway.
