About

Philosophy of care

As a Bosnian refugee my philosophy has been shaped by survival, sacrifice and an unshakable belief in the power of service. Encouraged by my family – especially my father, a former army medic whose quiet courage taught me what it means to serve – I learned that health care is not just about healing the body. It's about being present in someone’s most fragile moments, and offering strength when they have none left.

Why I entered medicine

My journey into health care began not with textbooks or lectures, but with flashing ambulance lights and the fear of losing my father. After surviving the five-year Bosnian war as a soldier – risking his life daily to protect and save others – my father was gravely injured in a devastating accident. He suffered multiple broken bones and, for a time, we didn’t know if he would survive. But then came the paramedics. I will never forget the calm urgency in their voices, the steadiness of their hands or the way they carried not just my father, but our hope. At that moment, something sparked inside me. It was the first time I truly understood what it meant to be the person who shows up when everything is falling apart. That moment lit a fire in me and I became a paramedic.

Community involvement

I have served as a volunteer wrestling coach at my former high school and later as a mixed martial arts instructor, mentoring youth and promoting physical fitness and discipline. I am passionate about service and look forward to continuing that commitment at volunteer clinics and medical trips to underserved communities locally and abroad.

Personal interests

When not focused on training and taking care of my own health, I’m all about cherishing quality time with my beautiful wife and our families. We love hiking and exploring the great outdoors together. Then, for a completely different kind of adventure, we unwind by strolling hand-in-hand through the aisles of Home Goods.
