- Jefferson Lehigh Valley Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship
With so many established hand surgery training programs, why have we chosen to launch a new training program and why should you consider entrusting us with this critical step in your career development?
The choice of an ultimate stop in your long training journey is a crucial one that influences your future. You are simultaneously contributing to and extracting knowledge and technical skill, while participating in the legacy of the program. That is why we have built a contemporary curriculum that provides trainees with the confidence and capability to be a practice, community and specialty leader upon graduation.
Our distinguishing characteristics include:
Volume and Variety of Pathology
The Jefferson Lehigh Valley Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship is built on an extremely busy foundation of elective and traumatic pathologies. The fellow will be involved in all facets of planning, surgical and nonsurgical management and execution of rehabilitation for thousands of cases.
Practical Preparation for a ‘Priva-Demic’ Practice
Our program leverages the freedoms of not being embedded in a traditional academic environment, while being one of the busiest practices in the nation. We aim to prepare the trainee for all practice environments by delivering the fellow prepared for the rigors of an autonomous practice from the outset.
Faculty Diversity and Synergy (Orthopedics and Plastic Surgery)
Side-by-side orthopedic surgery and plastic surgery perspectives provide a well-rounded approach and surgical portfolio. In addition to fostering collegiality, providing advanced techniques in skeletal and soft-tissue handling reinforces strong skills and surgical techniques.
Breadth of Practice: Hand, Wrist, Elbow and Microsurgery
Our program is designed for the trainee interested in developing an entire portfolio of skills to treat disorders from the mid-humerus and distal, including advanced microsurgery throughout the body. However, because our large Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute maintains sophisticated shoulder surgeons, special experiences to enhance training with exposure to shoulder pathology can be arranged.
Reputation Trajectory
For the third year running, Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute has been nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report. Our growing national reputation will help promote your career, as you will also contribute to our legacy.
Experience in Administering a Fellowship With Flexibility and Graduated Responsibility
Although this is a new fellowship, members of the faculty have a long history of training fellows and leading programs. This allows us to optimize your progress through your training and individualize your progress, matching it to your level of development and eventual goals for your ultimate practice.
Expanded Educational Platform (Collaborations and Opportunities)
Our recent merger expands educational opportunities by linking our fellows to other top training programs. Specialized clinical rotations and research collaborations can be pursued within our large collection of colleagues.
Our faculty appreciates your interest in training with us. The day you decided to become a hand and upper extremity surgeon, we became colleagues, and we shall remain here to support your development. For some of you, we shall get the privilege of being intimately engaged in your training. Regardless of the outcome of this process, consider us advocates who are prepared to support your career.
