Providing expert care for children in times of emergency

At Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital, we understand that accidents and emergencies can happen at any time, especially for the youngest members of our community. From a broken bone to stitches, whatever care your child may need, you can find it at our pediatric trauma center right away. The Mattioli Level II Trauma Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest offers the highest level of pediatric trauma care for children in the region.

When it comes to pediatric trauma, every second counts. Our highly trained medical professionals specialize in caring for kids and are committed to ensuring that your child receives the highest quality care during a traumatic event. We are equipped with the latest technology and resources to provide rapid assessment, diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of pediatric emergencies. This includes:

  • Evaluation and treatment of injuries, including fractures, burns and wounds.
  • Emergency surgical procedures when necessary.
  • Management of head injuries, concussions and neurological trauma.
  • Pain management tailored for children.
  • Psychological support for children and their families.

What to expect when your child comes to the Children’s ER

When you arrive at the Breidegam Family Children’s ER, our team will provide immediate attention to your child. We will assess the severity of the injury and create a personalized treatment plan. We understand that this can be a stressful time for both children and their families, and we are here to provide comfort and support throughout the process.

Ways we will care for your child and support your family

In an emergency, especially involving a pediatric trauma injury, we have the team and space ready to care for your child. We have:

  • Experienced pediatric specialists: Our team includes board-certified pediatric trauma surgeons, nurses and other health care professionals who specialize in treating children.
  • Dedicated child life specialists: Certified child life specialists help your child cope with being sick by offering opportunities for stress relief and relaxation as well as distractions to make procedures easier.
  • State-of-the-art facilities: We have dedicated pediatric units with advanced equipment to address the unique needs of young patients.
    • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
    • Inpatient Pediatric Unit
  • 24/7 availability: Emergencies don't have a schedule, and neither do we. Our pediatric trauma care is available around-the-clock to ensure your child has access to the care they need when they need it.
  • Team mindset: Our surgeons, nurses and other trauma specialists work closely together with LVHN–MedEvac professionals to make sure patients get the care they need, precisely when they need it.

Burn care specialists

Children who suffer a burn injury that doesn’t require hospitalization may receive care at the Walter J. and June H. Okunski Burn Recovery Center – which received pediatric verification by the American Burn Association. Our dedicated burn team responds immediately to improve outcomes and decrease a child’s burn-related pain. Patients who have been discharged from our Regional Burn Center also receive ongoing treatment here.

At Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital, we are dedicated to providing compassionate, expert care to children. Traumatic events can happen at any time and thanks to our 24/7 pediatric trauma team, we’re always prepared and ready for when your child needs us.
