Jefferson Health is among the top 100 hospitals and health systems in the country with great orthopedic programs in 2025, according to Becker’s Hospital Review  

The list includes orthopedic programs and institutes that provide exceptional musculoskeletal care, lead clinical trials and continue to advance orthopedic care and improve patient outcomes using the latest technology. Those featured also deliver care to elite sports teams and hold The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval.

Jefferson Health is comprised of 32 hospitals, including two dedicated orthopedic hospitals and more than 700 sites of care in the Lehigh Valley, Delaware Valley, northeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. Each year, the health system completes more than 500,000 orthopedic clinic visits and performs more than 50,000 orthopedic surgical procedures.

Nationally ranked orthopedic care

Programs and institutes considered for Becker’s orthopedic recognition have received notable awards from other organizations like U.S. News & World Report and Healthgrades. Jefferson Health is nationally ranked for orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report

Rothman Orthopaedics at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals is ranked 19th in the country for orthopedics. Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest is ranked 25th in the nation for orthopedic care. 

Healthgrades recognized Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest and Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg as “America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery” and “America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Outpatient Joint Replacement.”

Milestones in orthopedic excellence

Jefferson Health has performed more than 2,700 robotic-assisted surgeries to date. The health system also expanded its Bone Health Clinic, which offers comprehensive care for all aspects of bone health including prevention and treatments. 

The Orthopedic Institute continues to lead the way in sports medicine, having cared for nearly 200 professional athletes last year from Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, the National Football League and the Professional Golfers’ Association. 

Patients seeking effective pain relief for chronic musculoskeletal conditions have access to minimally invasive treatment options through the orthobiologics program. 

Shaping the future of care through research and education

In 2025, Thomas Jefferson University was awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health to launch a first-in-humans clinical trial using ultrasound and microbubbles to treat knee joint infections and enhance antibiotic activity to prevent reinfection. 

Jefferson Health also offers robust clinical training opportunities in collaboration with Rothman Orthopaedics. Orthopedic residency and fellowship programs include spine, shoulder and elbow, sports medicine, adult reconstruction, foot and ankle, musculoskeletal pain management and hand and upper extremity surgery.
