Caring for elderly parents or relatives can be overwhelming. That’s why Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), part of Jefferson Health, is partnering with several community organizations for the Caring for Aging Parents event, a free event Wednesday, Oct. 15, 4-7 p.m. at Health Center at Hecktown Oaks.

Attendees will have access to a wide range of elder care resources – from rehabilitation and palliative care to health plans and Meals on Wheels. Experts will be available to answer questions, provide guidance and share information.

“Caring for an aging loved one can be overwhelming, and many families don’t know where to turn for help,” says Kate Huck, Vice President, Operations, Lehigh Valley Hospital–17th Street. “The Caring for Aging Parents event is one way we bring together resources, education and support for people navigating the complexities of caregiving, whether you are planning for the future or need help right now.”

“You can create a plan for the future and know where to start. Most importantly, you don’t have to figure out elder care alone.” - Craig Souders

While Huck says there is no need to bring medical records or histories to the event, she suggests preparing a list of questions in advance.

Craig Souders, Administrator, Outpatient Rehabilitation and Ambulatory Operations, LVHN, knows firsthand how valuable these resources can be.

“The couple of hours you spend at an event like this are well worth it – even if you’re not facing major life decisions immediately,” Souders says. “You can create a plan for the future and know where to start. Most importantly, you don’t have to figure out elder care alone.”

The event is open to anyone caring for elderly parents or relatives.
