When the brain and nervous system don’t communicate properly, a wide range of symptoms, such as seizures, may result. It can be hard to watch your child struggle to control their movements. The neurology experts at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital are here to help.

We offer comprehensive care for neurological problems affecting children and young adults. Our specialists use sophisticated brain tests that may include looking at brain waves and images of the brain, if needed, to determine the cause of your child’s symptoms. Working closely with you and your family, we develop a personalized care plan that manages your child’s symptoms while maximizing their quality of life.

Get expert pediatric neurology care at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital

When you choose Children’s Hospital for your child’s neurology care, they benefit from our:

Pediatric experts

Our pediatric neurologists have received at least three more years of training more than other doctors, focused on caring for children with neurological conditions. We also have doctors with additional training and expertise in headache and sleep medicine. Only a few hundred doctors nationwide have this additional training and expertise. Our treatments are based on the latest medical evidence, which means you receive the most effective treatments available today.

Innovative therapies

Our specialists are skilled in determining when children need surgical procedures and when other treatment options will be effective. For example, a therapy called vagus nerve stimulation uses implanted electrical devices similar to a pacemaker that can control seizures in certain children if medications and quality of life measures are not enough.

Sleep center

We perform hundreds of sleep studies each year at our Pediatric Sleep Disorders Center, with sleep laboratories at LVH-17th Street and the Health Center at Bethlehem Township. We assess problems related to sleep and help manage your child’s symptoms to maximize their quality of life.

Personalized care plans

Your child’s treatment will depend on the type of disorder and the cause of your child’s symptoms. After making a diagnosis, your doctor will discuss the treatment options with you, developing a plan that fits your family’s needs. To meet your specific needs, your doctor may recommend:

  • Medication to control seizures or relieve symptoms
  • Orthopedic evaluation for devices, such as braces, to help your child move more easily
  • Evaluation for surgery, if advanced techniques and less invasive treatments don’t provide a solution

Surgical expertise

Children’s Hospital is home to the area’s only board-certified pediatric surgeons. As the region’s only institutional member of the Children’s Hospital Association, we deliver the highest quality of surgical care to every child. Surgeons who specialize in ear, nose and throat conditions work closely with pediatric neurologists, when needed, to treat conditions such as sleep apnea. Physicians who received special training in children’s sleep medicine will discuss treatment options that fit your child situation if that diagnosis is made.

Child-focused surgery centers

Our kid-friendly facilities offer pediatric anesthesia and sedation services, maximizing your child’s comfort and safety during surgery. Patients receive the same level of specialized care at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital and our outpatient J.B. and Kathleen Reilly Children’s Surgery Center.

Intensive care units

When a child needs intensive monitoring due to complex needs, they receive full-time care in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) or pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital.

Support services

If a neurological condition causes your child discomfort or pain, we provide appropriate pain management solutions. We’re sensitive to families’ needs, and we’ll provide the resources you need to feel supported in your child’s care.
