About Dr. Husain
Philosophy of care
Epilepsy is a life-long condition that affects patients' lives in unique and potentially evolving ways; so treatment should be personally tailored, collaborative, and focused on patient education. This requires a long-term team effort between patients, their epilepsy specialist, and a multidisciplinary team.
As an epileptologist (a neurologist who specializes in seizures and seizure-like episodes), my first step when I meet you, as a new patient, is to get a detailed, 360-degree view of your symptoms and history. This often involves pulling together multiple sources of information to make a diagnosis. The next step is to help you understand this life-changing diagnosis, including potential risks, safety planning, seizure tracking, and resources for support. We discuss an initial treatment plan, which is often adjusted based on personalized responses to medications.
Why I entered medicine
It's incredibly satisfying to solve a complex puzzle and to help others at the same time! I love that neurology gives me the opportunity to build long-term relationships so I can watch positive changes in my patients over time.
What drew me to epilepsy as a specialty was the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of a complex disease and the many new tools for diagnosis and treatment. I also valued the ability to master reading EEGs, which I feel contributes to a richer understanding of how my patients describe their seizures.
