What our residents say:

“I am incredibly grateful to have completed my transitional medicine intern year at Lehigh Valley Health Network. I felt the year was perfectly balanced between learning on primary rotations and having enough elective time to get a wide exposure to medicine. The best thing though was the friendships I made with all of my internal medicine and transitional year co-residents. The people here are great and really make you feel part of a family. I feel proud to have started my career as a physician at LVHN and I am looking forward to continuing my residency while keeping those friendships strong!”
– Sathvik Shastry, MD

“I really enjoyed my transitional year here at Lehigh Valley Health Network. It gives you a perfect mix of internal medicine core rotations along with electives such as physical medicine and rehabilitation, ophthalmology, radiology oncology, palliative, internal medicine subspecialties and many more. The people here are very helpful and they make you competent enough to pursue your advanced specialty. I am happy that I chose LVHN for my transitional year residency.”
– Ashish Shrestha, MD
Transitional Year Resident, class of 2023
Lehigh Valley Health Network, Neurology Residency

"My time as a Transitional Year Resident at LVHN has afforded me my first opportunity to be an integral part of the medical care team, something I will be forever grateful for. I have been able to work with diverse patient populations, in a hospital with a community and academic feel. As a future Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician, it was important for me to find a program for my PGY-1 year that would allow me to learn immensely and not be afraid to make mistakes. My schedule for the year was uniquely balanced as compared to other PGY-1 programs. I feel my time on the medicine services has adequately prepared me for my future inpatient PM&R rotations and I was allowed to pursue a great array of electives. The relationships I have fostered will be a lasting memory for me. Despite everyone knowing I would only be at LVHN for one year, I truly was a welcomed part of the family, by all my co-interns, senior residents, and attendings. They were curious about my future endeavors and encouraged me to make critical decisions for my patients. It will be difficult to leave behind the friends I have made, but I will cherish my time here. I would highly recommend the LVHN Transitional Year Residency to all applicants!

“I had a wonderful experience training here at LVHN for my transitional year. The clinical experience leaves you well rounded in all disciplines and builds a solid foundation for those going into any specialty. What I loved most about LVHN is the strong bond between the residents, and the support from leadership staff despite being in an unprecedented time with constant challenges. Truly grateful that I got to spend part of my training here and hope to come back one day.”
– Somiah Almeky, MD
Transitional Year Resident, class of 2021
Residency: Boston University Medical Center, Diagnostic Radiology

“I just graduated from the Lehigh Valley Transitional Year program in 2020. I loved the environment here, as everyone was truly supportive and devoted to helping both transitional and categorical residents develop. I finished this year being very happy with the progression in my internal medicine skills and knowledge base. Furthermore, I felt that the wide variety of electives available allowed me to experience numerous fields that I otherwise did not come across during medical school. Overall, it was a great year and I am extremely happy to have had my year here. “
– Roshun Sangani, MD
Transitional Year Resident, class of 2020
Medical School: Drexel University College of Medicine
Residency Specialty: Ophthalmology

“Like most Transitional Year applicants, my goals were to build a strong set of clinical skills and solidify my foundational medical knowledge. While the core rotations within the Lehigh Valley Health Network easily allowed me to do so, the true value of this Transitional Year program stems from the genuine interactions I was able to have with each of the faculty, staff, and co-residents. The program leadership listens and shows flexibility to satisfy both educational and personal needs, especially with regards to its ample elective time. I am thankful for the high caliber academic experience I received, and I am most appreciative of the worthwhile friendships and professional relationships I was able to foster.”
– Joseph Hornak, MD
Transitional Year Resident, class of 2020
Medical School: Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine
Residency: UC Davis PM&R

“The LVHN TY program was a perfect start to my residency. Firstly, the internal medicine residents, attendings, and staff are wonderful to work with, and I felt like a valued member of the team from the getgo. I truly enjoyed the variety of rotations available, from challenging yet rewarding ICU rotations to specialized electives such as radiation oncology. I felt I grew immensely both professionally and personally during my transitional year. Residents are given a lot of autonomy yet always have attending backup available, which taught me to think on my feet and become confident making decisions. Going into interventional radiology, I’m well equipped to handle patient complications because of my hands-on experiences at LVHN.”
– Danielle Peters, MD

“I am honored to have completed my transitional year at LVHN. When applying for internships, I sought a TY program that would offer a firm foundation in medicine to prepare me for further training, as well as one that valued resident education, wellness and camaraderie. LVHN exceeded these expectations. I could not imagine a better place to initiate my career as a physician. While I am saddened to leave the medicine program, I both look forward to and am confident in applying the medical knowledge and clinical skills I acquired this year to my career in dermatology.”
