Lehigh Valley Health Network provides specialized trauma care at multiple facilities: Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar Crest, LVH–Hazleton, LVH–Hecktown Oaks, LVH–Muhlenberg and LVH–Pocono.

Trauma services meets the needs of patients and families

In a trauma emergency, Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) provides the care you or your loved one needs. Five LVHN hospitals have earned accreditation from the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation as certified trauma centers, and are designed and staffed to handle all range of traumatic injury.

Trauma care in the Lehigh Valley

The Fleming Trauma System and Mattioli Level I Trauma Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar Crest, the first trauma center in Pennsylvania and the largest in the region, provides the highest level of trauma care available for both adults and children.

Trauma specialties at LVH–Cedar Crest

  • Geriatric trauma: Our section for geriatric trauma was established in 2004 at LVH–Cedar Crest. Our geriatricians use an interdisciplinary team approach in collaboration with fellowship-trained acute care surgeons and intensivists.
  • Burn care: The Walter J. and June H. Okunski Burn Recovery Center is Pennsylvania’s largest burn recovery center and is verified to treat adults and children by the American Burn Association and American College of Surgeons.
  • Pediatric emergency care: LVH–Cedar Crest is home to the region's only Children’s ER, staffed by board-certified pediatric emergency physicians, along with board-certified emergency physicians. We are prepared to care for your child in a caring and child-friendly environment.

Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Muhlenberg Level II Trauma Center

Located in the heart of the Lehigh Valley at the Lehigh-Northampton County border, the Level II trauma center designation for LVH–Muhlenberg was achieved in July 2021.

LVH–Muhlenberg’s trauma center features an array of on-site medical expertise needed to treat serious trauma injuries, allowing patients to receive lifesaving, expert care close to home.

Trauma care in the Poconos

LVH–Pocono is a Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation-accredited Level III Trauma Center. LVH–Pocono has in-house emergency medicine and anesthesia capability at all times, as well as in-house trauma surgeons available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Trauma care in northeastern Pennsylvania

LVH–Hazleton is a Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation-accredited Level IV Trauma Center. As such, LVH–Hazleton has the resources immediately available to provide optimal care and reduce the likelihood of death or disability after a severe injury.

Trauma care in Northampton County

LVH-Hecktown Oaks is a Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation-accredited Level IV Trauma Center. LVH-Hecktown Oaks has the resources and highly trained staff to immediately provide life-saving care to injured patients
