Jefferson Health’s hospitals have been named among the best in the nation as part of U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital, Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital, Jefferson Abington Hospital, Jefferson Washington Township Hospital, Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono, Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg and Lehigh Valley Hospital–Schuylkill were all ranked as “High Performing,” which is the highest level that a hospital can receive.
This year, 901 facilities from across the country were evaluated and 495 hospitals earned “High Performing” status. As part of its methodology, U.S. News & World Report evaluates hospitals based on objective quality measures, including C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, newborn complication rates, breastfeeding rates, birthing-friendly practices, episiotomy rates and other key metrics.
In addition, Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono, Lehigh Valley Hospital–Schuylkill and Lehigh Valley Hospital–Hazleton each received U.S. News & World Report’s Maternity Care Access designation. This designation recognizes hospitals that provide maternity services to communities that might otherwise lack adequate access.
To earn Maternity Care Access status, hospitals are evaluated based on quality measures, including newborn complication rates, C-section rates and episiotomy rates. Hospitals must also meet specific geographical criteria. This year, 147 hospitals nationwide earned this designation.
U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking is designed to help expectant families, in consultation with their care team, make informed decisions about where to receive the best maternity care.
