Hello! My name is Logan Shcherbyna, MD. My journey through life and medicine has been full of twists and turns, but joining the Walter and Irene Baran Schuylkill Family Medicine Residency has truly been a blessing. It has become the cornerstone of my medical education and the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance and growth through personal and professional challenges.

I was born into a military family in North Dakota and spent much of my early life moving from place to place. Eventually, life brought me to Ukraine — a country I feel deeply connected to and where I began building my own family. However, the devastating impact of the Russian invasion brought immense hardship and ultimately led me back to the United States to continue pursuing my career and securing a future for my family.

Joining a rural family medicine residency through Lehigh Valley Health Network and Jefferson Health has been a transformative experience. The transition from medical student to practicing physician is both daunting and essential, and this program has supported that shift with intention and care. The emphasis on mental wellness and work-life balance, upheld by both the institution and its leadership, has allowed me to grow into a confident, compassionate and capable physician. I feel genuinely proud to be part of this team — and more importantly, I find joy and renewal in my work every day.

Practicing rural family medicine in Schuylkill County is uniquely rewarding. Being embedded in a close-knit community allows for a deeper understanding of patients’ lives, enabling us to provide more personalized and meaningful care. As the only residency based at our main hospital and associated clinics, we are offered unparalleled opportunities to be involved in all aspects of patient care. There is no competition for cases — just a wealth of learning, driven by your own curiosity and commitment.
