Career goal: Family medicine
I'm Zahara Baig, MD, a US-born, Kashmir-raised physician whose journey between cultures has shaped me into a resilient person. I'm drawn to the profession of medicine because it represents the pinnacle of academic excellence and makes one stand out in society. It's a calling, and I consider myself fortunate enough to pursue it.
My reason for choosing family medicine is that it allows me to do a little bit of everything, making me a jack-of-all-trades while also providing the opportunity to find my niche and become a master of one. What better winning combination could one ask for?
I'm at Lehigh Valley in a rural setting because it reminds me of the kind of patient population I'm used to seeing back in Kashmir, Pakistan, so it feels like a home run. It helps me build the skills to be resourceful and make the most out of what I have – a life attribute that is going to take me places. I hope my time here becomes the foundation for the kind of future I envision for myself. The journey might be long, but it's more beautiful than the destination!
