Recovering together
At the Cancer Institute, Dr. Singla and his team will be advancing their work with solid tumors, such as sarcomas, carcinomas and lymphomas, which represent about 90% of adult cancers. Clinicians typically treat these cancers with a combination of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. The team is also employing highly specific therapies such as CAR-T cell therapy, antibody drug conjugates and targeted molecular agents.
“Advances today are focused on overcoming the environment in the body that inhibits immune cells from killing cancer cells, as well as improving precision and efficacy of treatment,” Dr. Singla says.
Patients can also find additional services such as radiation, infusion and access to clinical trials nearby at the Regional Cancer Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Hazleton, a service of Lehigh Valley Hospital–Schuylkill, part the Cancer Institute and Jefferson Health.
Beyond a forward-thinking approach combined with complete services, Dr. Singla and his team are continuing their emphasis on the caring side of treatment.
“When patients feel truly listened to and cared for, their stress goes down and their mental health improves,” he says. “People with strong support systems often manage pain better, stick to their treatments and even have stronger immune systems. We believe that by caring for our patients emotionally, we can significantly impact their physical recovery.”
