Philosophy of care

My philosophy of care is focusing on the GI system, while taking care of the whole child. I believe in developing a care team with family and caregivers of patients, and value shared decision-making. I will always make medical decisions for patients that I would want for my own children.

Why I entered medicine

I have always been interested in science. My favorite childhood activities were looking at droplets of water under my play microscope, using a home chemistry set and playing the game Operation. I was fascinated by science but drawn to medicine because I admired my mother's career as a nurse. Her dedication to the care of patients and the joy she received from it was contagious.

Community involvement

I am a youth sports coach.

Personal interests

I love spending time with my wife and four children. We love the outdoors; hiking, paddle boarding and visiting national parks. I also enjoy cooking and live music.

About our Survey

Our physicians and advanced practice clinicians (CRNPs and PA-Cs) are among the nation's best. That's why we show you patient satisfaction ratings and comments so you can read about and get to know our clinicians through the eyes of their patients.

To ensure our ratings and comments come only from verified patients, we work with NRC Health, a third-party organization. NRC Health sends patient satisfaction surveys on LVPG's behalf following an office visit or procedure. They ask patients about their impression of the health care provider and the doctor's or advanced practice clinician's communication skills.

What is included in the star rating?

Star ratings are based on a scale of 1-5 stars, 5 being the best. The rating includes responses to these clinician-related questions:

Why don't all doctors or advanced practice clinicians have a rating?

In order to have enough data to measure and compare, a health care clinician must have at least 30 completed patient satisfaction surveys. Surveys are included for a period of 12 months from submission.

"Dr. Paul was absolutely fantastic! The moment he walked out of the room, my 8 year old daughter shared how nice he was and that she really liked him. He came into the visit prepared, listened to her history and our concerns, asked me questions and also asked my daughter questions when appropriate to include her in her care, and provided a thorough and unique treatment plan moving forward. We are thankful to have found Dr. Paul and look forward to having him as part of her care team."
