Hernias usually result from an internal organ that pushes through a weak point in your muscle or tissue. Often, they occur in the abdomen. You might feel pressure, dull pain or pinching that’s especially noticeable when you laugh, cough or lift something. Hernias usually become more serious and painful over time and eventually require surgery.
For that reason – and because there are several kinds of hernias – it’s important to find out if the discomfort you might be experiencing is caused by a hernia. To help, Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), part of Jefferson Health, regularly offers free hernia screenings, three of which are coming up in March at three locations.
