Pregnancy is a journey filled with anticipation, joy and plenty of appointments. At Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), part of Jefferson Health, we understand that balancing prenatal care with everyday life can be challenging. That’s why LVHN offers a safe and effective virtual prenatal care program designed to support you during your third trimester, allowing you to continue receiving the care you and your baby need, right from the comfort of your home, office, workplace or wherever you are.

“Our virtual prenatal care program here at LVHN has opened new doors for women to receive the support they need throughout pregnancy,” says Travis Dayon, MD, Chief of the Division of Obstetrics with LVHN. “This program has provided safe, dependable care to families across the Lehigh Valley. We look forward to expanding the program to additional hospitals and practices at LVHN.”

First and second trimester: Traditional care

During the first and second trimesters, you’ll have routine, in-office visits. These visits ensure that you and your baby receive the personal care and monitoring needed during the early stages of pregnancy.

Third trimester: A blend of virtual and in-person care

Starting at 24 weeks and throughout your third trimester, if eligible, you can take advantage of LVHN’s safe and effective virtual prenatal care program, which saves you time by allowing you to get the OB care you need from the comfort and convenience of wherever you are. Here’s how it works:

Initial setup with an RN. You’ll meet with a registered nurse to learn how to use the essential tools you’ll need provided to you free of charge. They include a fetal doppler to listen to your baby’s heartbeat, a scale to track your weight and a blood pressure cuff for real-time remote monitoring of blood pressure.

Begin alternating between virtual and in-person visits. Once you have the tools you need, your prenatal care will alternate between virtual visits and traditional in-office appointments. This hybrid approach ensures you stay closely connected to your care team while enjoying the flexibility of virtual check-ins.
